Tackling the concrete was no easy task. It was hard and labouring work for Chris and my dad. They worked incredibly hard moving heavy bags and mixing cement. I was so grateful for their hard work because I know I would have given up and called a company after moving the first bag.
We all remember what our porch looked like, so the first thing we needed to do was remove the awful greyish/blackish/blueish outdoor carpet. We think the owners before us put carpet over the cement pad because they poured the cement over the existing concrete and it didn’t look right. We also figured this out because the part they poured sank, causing a half-inch tripping hazard.
So Chris took the hammer to the pad, also discovering that they didn’t pour enough cement down, so hello hollow pad.
As you can see there are two parts to our porch…the original concrete pad that was pretty much solid and could not be broken, and whatever the previous owners poured before…
So stay tuned until next week, we’re installing easy access for our cable and internet into the house, and pouring the cement!
