One of the best vacations we have ever taken as a couple sans kids has to be our honeymoon at Sandals La Source Grenada. Back when Chris and I were just dating, we took a vacation to a Sandals resort in Cuba, which unfortunately is no longer owned by Sandals, but we loved every single minute of that trip. So when it came time to pick a honeymoon location, we knew that we wanted to keep it in the Sandals family. They offered a military discount, plus because we had stayed with them before, we were part of their Sandals Select Rewards Program, which allows us to collect points to use towards future Sandals/Beaches vacations. Initially, we booked at the Grande in St. Lucia but when we received an email informing us of their brand new resort in Grenada, we jumped on it. We moved our reservation over and we don’t regret it one bit!
It was breathtaking. We left the day after our wedding day and when we arrived at the airport in Grenada it smelled amazing. I’m not even kidding you, it smelled like a baker’s dream, at least that’s how I remember it. Which isn’t surprising considering they are known as the “spice” island. It’s known as that because of the numerous nutmeg plantations, probably why the island smells so lovely. Besides the wonderful smell, there were 6 things that stood out to us on our honeymoon and made us fall in love with this resort.
The Beautiful Scenery
When we pulled up to the resort, we couldn’t believe how beautiful everything was. Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we dropped off our luggage with the concierge and wandered around the resort ending off at the beach. I was a small private beach with plenty of beach chairs but the thing we loved about it, was the view. Sitting in our chairs, listening to the ocean was so peaceful.
Whoever lives up on that hill is super lucky! The resort felt secluded surrounded by green hills, and cliffs and the ocean. Waking up in the morning, we heard birds and waves against the rock walls. Because I’m a morning person, I would wake up early, put on my bathing suit and hang out in our balcony pool watching the sunrise. Which leads me to to the second thing we loved about Sandals La Source Grenada.
Our Room
When we arrived at the resort, we were upgraded to a South Seas One Bedroom Butler Villa with Infinity Edge Pool. It felt like we hit the room jackpot. We had a large bedroom that opened up out to our pool. We actually jumped from our room into the pool some days. Our balcony also included a cute little patio table where we ate breakfast some mornings, a private hot tube, and an outdoor shower. Inside was a whole other level of luxury. We had a private entrance into our villa, a separate living room, fully stocked bar, a bedroom with king-sized bed and sliding doors that opened right out to the pool.
Then there was the bathroom. Oh my goodness! Soaker tub, walk-in shower with multiple rain heads, glassed-in toilet room, and two sinks. There were also doors that opened up to a beautiful stone patio. We really wanted to take this entire villa home with us. Plus for the first time ever, Chris and I had a butler. Which if I’m being entirely honest felt super weird. Not because our butlers were weird but because we’ve never had the experience of having a butler. Our butlers were amazing staff members who really went above and beyond. They reserved beach chairs and delivered food and beers to us as we relaxed. They escorted us to our dining reservations, they handled our excursions, spa reservations, they even gave us turn down service every night. Plus we were handed a cell phone that we could use to call our butlers directly if we ever needed anything. The only time we ever used it was whenever we were sitting on the beach and wanted beers, mostly because we just wanted to try out the cell phone. Anyways, we couldn’t say enough good things about them.
The Food
One of the best things about a Sandals resort is the fact that they are all-inclusive. Top shelf alcohol, multiple restaurants, and amazing food.

The Excursions
Then there are the excursions. When we were registering for wedding gifts, we actually had a Sandals registry so our guests were able to gift excursions, spa treatments, etc to us. It was really brilliant. We ended up with a Jeep tour of the island that included water rafting through a river, a tour to a cocoa plantation and lunch at a beautiful restaurant, scuba diving for Chris, Spa treatments for me, and plenty more.
I think our favourite part of all the excursions was the water rafting. Although in June, the water level was low, it was still a lot of fun. We went with a group of 6 other couples, and I believe the whole tour was about 4 or 5 hours. We drove in an open back jeep. All of us were standing as our tour guide, who was hilarious, was telling us all about the island. We then headed on a short hike through one of the forests, took a dip in a small pond, then headed to the water rafting location. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend this over and over.
The Romantic Atmosphere
Being that we were on our honeymoon, romance was on the top of our list for what we wanted. La Source didn’t disappoint. Unlike their Beaches Resorts, which is family friendly, Sandals is couples only. Which is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon. From the intimate setting at restaurants to sitting together by the nighttime fire by the main pool. It all screamed romance. But my favourite romantic thing was our private nighttime candlelight dinner on the beach. We were served a three-course dinner, wine, and champagne as we watched the sunset.
Then there were the little touches of romance thanks to our butlers. When we first arrived, we found champagne with glasses chilling in an ice bucket. The bath was ready for a romantic bubble bath, a towel animal lay on top of the bath tray, and there was a popsicle stick message on the floor wishing us a Happy Honeymoon.
LOOK champagine and flowers!!! I was excited about it all!
Cafe de Paris
This deserves a category of its own. I basically lived at Cafe de Paris when Chris was scuba diving, which I can’t participate in because I suffer from migraines. Anyways, the Cafe de Paris is this small little cafe that serves coffees, teas, and crepes. All kinds of yummy crepes, our favourite being the banana and Nutella crepe. You could sit inside but I found the best seating was outside at one of the many patio tables. There’s always seating available and it’s a beautiful place to sit, drink your coffee and read a book during a rainstorm or thunderstorm. At least that’s what Chris and I did during storms, we didn’t want to just stay in our rooms so we would get a coffee and sit and talk outside the cafe.
So there you have it, the 6 best things about Sandals La Source Grenada Resort. I would recommend this resort over and over to everyone and anyone looking for a beautiful, romantic, getaway with their significant other. Chris and I can’t get enough of the beautiful resort and hope that we can plan another trip soon or perhaps we’ll try another Sandals Resort. We initially wanted to stay at the Grande in St. Lucia so maybe our next couples only vacation will be there! Or we’ll look to head to a Beaches resort now that we have Wendy. Oh, decisions!
Anyways, I want to hear from you. Have you stayed at a Sandals or Beaches Resorts? What did you think about it?

La Source in 2019 will be our third Sandals. Though costly, Sandals gives you value for money. We really liked both Grand Exuma and Antigua – and have no hesitation recommending them. I enjoyed your blog post and appreciate you taking the time to share your hints! Thank you.

Definitely visit Grande St. Lucia! My husband and I got married there in Feb. 2018, and it was wonderful! I especially loved the swings that were right over the water, and the huge permanent floats in the ocean. The only downside is the 2 hour airport transfer, but it is worth it once you’re there. Thanks for the review of Grenada, we are going there for our 2 year anniversary in 2020!

It sounds like Grenada might have changed a lot since you were there, the description and pictures on the website look and sound different. We’re going to Grenada next year and we also LOVE Cafe de Paris. We’ve been to 4 different Sandals and that’s one of our favorite things! Go to Grande St. Lucia!
