Can you believe it’s March already! This year is just flying by. A lot of people in my life actually told me that when I had Wendy, time was going to go by much too quickly and they were right. Can you believe that Wendy is already in her toddler years! I know, it’s crazy. Even my fur-baby is growing up too fast. Lady will be turning 7 years old this year. It’s nuts and honestly, I don’t really want to be wasting my time doing things like cleaning, when there are better things to do. I’m sure I’m not the only mom out there who feels this way. So to make the most out of my time, I had to get a bit creative and I had to make sure I invested in the right tools that would help me manage my cleaning schedule and time. Enter The Libman Company’s Freedom Spray Mop.
I headed over to my local Canadian Tire and directly to the cleaning aisle. I browsed through my options and found Libman’s Freedom Mop.
The best part, it was on sale and I ended up earning some Canadian Tire money. Which is a big reason why Chris and I tend to shop at Canadian Tire, we use the Canadian Tire money we earn on oil changes, Christmas gifts, etc, so win, win. Anyways, I bought the mop and a few other items and headed home to give it a try.
Guys, I can’t say enough good thing about this mop. Seriously, it’s pretty inexpensive to being with, PLUS if you sign up for The Libman Company newsletter you’ll get a $3-off coupon. Who doesn’t like a good deal? Then there’s the fact that you don’t have to buy disposable mop sheets, which really get expensive. This mop comes with a thick microfiber pad that cleans deep and is machine washable up to 100 times, which just makes sense to me, especially since I have a 65lb loveable ball of fur who treks mud through the house when spring showers come around. So being able to just throw this pad in the wash is a pretty convenient feature.
Wanna know another reason I love this mop? I can use whatever cleaning solution I want. So whether I’m DIYing my cleaning solution or buying it in store, I’m not limited in my options. So this mop has easily become my new favourite cleaning tool for spring, oh who am I kidding, it’ll be my favourite all year round because Wendy and Lady will be making messes all year. Plus this mop even features a neck that swivels 360 degrees for extra control to reach tough spots and if you have a toddler, you know how important it is to be able to get to those tough spots. Seriously, my girl gets into everything these days…I found chalk dust under the dog’s water bowl…
Even though they are little mess makers, there are definitely things I’ve learned about how to management my cleaning schedule and how to make cleaning a quicker chore. And because these work for me, I’ve decided to share my tips with you so you can spend more time making memories and less time spring cleaning.
1. Get your kids in on the action
You may think that a 16 month is too young to start helping out with the cleaning, but trust me, Wendy was 16months when Chris and I really started to include her and teach her all about cleaning up after yourself. The best part is toddlers that young will just think it’s fun to copy whatever mommy or daddy is doing. So whenever Wendy spilled her milk on the floor, I would bring out the paper towel and hand her a sheet, while I cleaned up the floor. Her reaction was to try and copy me. So now whenever she spills something, all I have to do is hand her some paper towel and she’ll try to clean up the mess herself. Same with putting away her toys. Every night, just before bedtime, Chris and I play the pickup game with Wendy. Which is really just Chris and I giving her the toys she’s put all over the floor and asking her to put them in her toy baskets. Sometimes it takes some repeating but she does it. I’ve even started to notice to she puts away some of her toys during the day when she is done playing with them. Really the goal here is to just get them interested in cleaning with you. When I bring out my cleaning tools, like the mop, vacuum, etc. I let Wendy try them out
2. If you have a furbaby place a mat near your pup’s door and have your pet sit and wait until their paws dry off
This was something that Chris and I trained Lady to do, just so we could reduce the amount of mud and dirt that she brought through the house. It wasn’t easy and she doesn’t always listen to the stay command, but just having that mat by the door helps so much. If it’s really muddy outside, I grab a towel and wipe Lady’s paws clean.
3. Invest in easy to clean surfaces.
So our house initially had carpet all over the house. With a 65lb lab/husky who sheds a new dog every season, we were blowing out vacuum motors way too often. It was just too much work, so when we decided to renovate, we made the decision to invest in easy to clean surfaces. We removed all the carpet in the house, installed laminate floors, hardwood stairs, and tile in the front entrance and the bathrooms. Talk about time savers. I’m not wasting time with carpet stain removers everytime Wendy or Lady make a mess, we’re not going through vacuums because of dust and fur and all that, and we don’t have to buy or rent really expensive carpet cleaning machines. I can easily sweep up the floors every day, quickly mop up any wet messes, and spend more time with my crazy toddler and fur-baby, oh and Chris.
4. Invest in a good broom and mop
I can’t stress this one enough. A good broom and mop really help me keep my floors clean and help me clean quickly. Nobody wants to messin’ around with a broom that bends out of shape the first time you use it or a mop that doesn’t work. I recommend The Libman Company Precision Angle Broom and the Freedom Spray Mop. I own both of these and love them, so I would definitely recommend them a hundred times over.
5. Wait until the evening to bring out the mop
I sweep the floors after every meal, mostly because Wendy throws food on the floor for Lady, but Lady can be a little picky sometimes or she doesn’t suck up all the crumbs. So I sweep kitchen and dining room, wipe up any spills when they happen, but I wait to bring out my mop until Wendy is down for the night and Lady has had her last outdoor trek. Then give the floors a quick sweep, and bring out the mop. Then I head to bed with a smile, because at least I’m waking up to some clean floor, at least for an hour or so.
So there you have it, my 5 tips that’ll help with your cleaning this spring. Now I’m off to mop up the floors with my Libman Freedom Spray Mop because as I’m writing this, my family is sound asleep upstairs, so I’m putting on my headphones, turning on my playlist and mopping up the messy memories my family made today.
